I'd gladly take Ted Stachaitas or Connor Kempe to backup Marve and push him in practice once Kyle Timberwright and Kirby Freemandela are gone.
EJ Manuel - FSU
Mike Glennon - NCSU or UVa
VT is not in the race for either because of Tyrod and they're throwing all their eggs into the basket for Tahj Boyd and Kevin Newsome in 2009
Manuel is the better of the 2, Glennon is rail thin and strictly a drop back passer

He kinda reminds me of the last QB (Dorsey) to lead the Hurricanes to the National Championship.
he's not on Dorsey's level

Thanks for saying that. I didn't want to reply on that and seem like a homer for Miami. Glennon's talented, but he's no Dorsey.

This guy is probably more physically gifted. Dorsey's greatness was all between his ears. Its sorta hard to tell in a highlight video how good someone is mentally. Dorsey threw some of the ugliest passes in the history of the game, subpar arm strength, and terrible mechanics. Not saying that Glennon will ever lead anybody to a national title or ever have a football IQ like Dorsey but he could be just as good if not better, as could Kyle Wright. I think Dirt34 was commenting on his physical stature in regards to Dorsey. Its sort of hard to compare a high school qb to an nfl qb anyway but I would say they are similar in terms of where they were in high school. Im guessing Glennon will probably be a 4 star or high 3star. (really theres little difference between a 3 and a 5). Coming out of Miramonte, Dorsey was I believe a 4 star and was honorable mention all american. Id like to go ahead and thank the UT Vols and Chrissy Sims for allowing Dorsey to become a cane Most Qb's have the potential to be better than Dorsey, most of them will never have his work ethic or "it" factor though. Something thats nearly impossible for a site like rivals to see.
Alot of people are saying Pryor is going to be a superstar, etc. To me, hes not worth recruiting because you know hes only going to put half of his heart into football, if that. Yeah I know, he could be Charlie Ward, then again, he could be Ronald Curry. I want a QB that eat, sleeps, and breathes football just like Dorsey did. Worst case scenario, I want a QB with the heart of Berlin.

so when VT signs a bunch of 4 stars and high 3's will i hear the comment about all the 5-stars Miami is gettin??
honestly i think the younger Glennon is getting a little overhyped right now even for as under the radar as he still is, i don't think he'll turn into a guy who is above average...you gotta remember his brother Sean was the #1 rated player in the state his senior year above Eddie Royal, Branden Ore, Chris Long and Jerod Mayo

That's a silly comment. If you haven't noticed, Coker hasn't been getting the Rolls-Royce 5-star type of guys the past few years. Shannon may change that with guys like Patrick Johnson in the fold this year, but the majority of Miami's class last year was 3-4 stars. The only 5-star guy to commit and make it all the way to Miami in the past two classes is Graig Cooper. Only 2 other 5-star guys have been in Miami's class since the '05 class, and those were Kenny Phillips and Reggie Youngblood.
It's possible if Shannon does his job that we could get 4-5 5-star guys this year, but I don't expect much more than that. That's an optimistic estimate on my part.
Also add on that I recall that mega and I have both said on here that Beamer & Co. likes to take lower rated players out of HS who they can develop into their system and make something more out of them than what they were in HS, and that's not really a slight. It's just how VT recruits.

no i know exactly how and why they recruit the way they do...it's just that mega had made a comment about VT's class at one point sayin VT can't get the 5 star kids like Miami or something of that nature

usually the 5 star guys have more ability, but obviously it really doesnt matter much once you get to college because work ethic reigns supreme. Not to mention, rivals is a imperfect science if there ever was one. Coop went from a 3 star to a 5 star just by changing schools. And you also gotta make sure the players fit your system regardless of the star system.
I will say I believe that a 3 star in south florida is usually quite a bit better than 3 and 4 star players from most states. When you have that kind of competition and hold your own, you def deserve to be at the very least a 3 star in south florida. Put the same guy in another state and hes likely a 4 or 5 star. Theres just so much talent there. You take away Broward, Dade, and Palm Beach county and the state of florida really isnt even that good of a football state. Similar to Va if you take away the tidewater area. We are talking about the same 3 counties that make/break the presidency.
Miami's highest ranked class was the 04 class(in the history of the program) and its the worst class they ever had. Outside of Campbell, Reddick, and Ponder(all 3 stars), that class was garbage.
Going by rankings is an imperfect science, but statistics do show that a 5 star player has the best chance of making the nfl. Nfl players dont always make for winning college programs, but usually they do. Obviously you want 5 star guys that can make an impact on your program, but there are alot of guys out there that are good 3 stars. What I dont like is how they come up with a complete class ranking. Its really pointless(see miami 2004+bad coaching).
If you get a couple of 5 star guys that are superstars, you can build 3 star guys around them and make a national championship caliber team. You only need so many great players if the rest of the team is average. You want to avoid players that are below average.
Way too many variables. The best ranking system is a player that has great work ethic, great character, and enough talent to do the job in your system. Thats what you really want regardless of what rivals says. Butch Davis could show Mike Farrell a thing or two, thats for damn sure.
